How to transfer contacts to Sony Xperia Z, ZL android phone

You got new Sony Xperia Z android phone. You may want to transfer contacts from your old phone to new phone. Your contacts might be in iPhone, cloud like Gmail account, Outlook on Windows PC, SIM card or VCF file. Wherever your contacts are, It is easy to transfer contacts to Sony Xperia Z phone in few steps.

There are lot of ways to import contacts from your old phone to new phone. I will try to provide fastest and easy ways to transfer contacts.

Transfer contacts from Android Phone to Sony Xperia Z/ZL
If your old phone is an android phone, You have couple of ways to transfer contacts to Sony Xperia Z. You can transfer using Bluetooth or Gmail/Google account.

a. Transfer Contacts from Android to Sony Xperia Z via Bluetooth
1. Make sure Bluetooth is turned on your old phone and new phone. Swipe from top of the screen and tap Bluetooth to turn it on. Go to Settings > Bluetooth > Tap on your phone name to make it visible. Do this on your both phones. On your old phone, Tap on “Scan for devices” option to scan for new devices. Pair both phones.

2. On your old android phone, Go to Applications > Contacts > Menu > Import/Export > Export to USB Storage. It exports contacts to VCF file (ex: 00001.vcf) and puts the vcf file in the root of your old android phone.

3. On your old android phone, Download and Install ES File Explorer. Open it and It displays files from root of your android device (ex: /sdcard/)

4. Tap & Hold on the VCF file (don’t just tap, it will import contacts to old android phone) > Select Share by scrolling down in the menu > Tap Bluetooth > Tap Sony Xperia Z/ZL to send contacts via Bluetooth.

5. On your Sony Xperia Z phone, Tap accept to receive the contacts file. Slide down from top of the screen to see Notification panel. Tap on the contacts file you received to import contacts.

This whole process should not take more than couple of minutes. You can transfer contacts from any android phone like old Xperia phone like Xperia T, E etc, Samsung Galaxy S2, S3, S3 Mini, Galaxy Grand, HTC One X, Droid Razr, LG Optimus etc.

b. Transfer Contacts to Sony Xperia Z by syncing Gmail/Google account
If you have contact sync setup on your old android phone, Your contacts should be in the Gmail/Google account. Login to Gmail and go to Contacts to check If your contacts are there. You normally see g icon (Google icon) next to your contacts on your old phone If you already setup sync. Go to Settings > Accounts & sync > Tap on Google account > Tap Sync contacts to sync contacts to Gmail account.

If you add the same Google account on Sony Xperia Z, Your contacts will be synced to your new phone.

c. Transfer Contacts from Android Phone to Sony Xperia Z via email manually
If above sync method is not working for you, You can email VCF file to your self and open the VCF file on your new phone.

On your old android phone, Follow Steps #2, #3 above to create contacts VCF File and email file to yourself. On Sony Xperia Z, open the email and Tap on the VCF file to import contacts. If you use browser to access email, VCF file will be downloaded Downloads (Applications > Downloads app).

Transfer contacts from iPhone to Sony Xperia Z/ZL
If your old phone is iPhone 5, iPhone 4S, iPhone 4 or iPhone 3GS, You can transfer contacts to Sony Xperia Z easily.

On your iPhone, Download & Install My Contacts Backup. Open the app > Tap on Backup > Email the VCF file to any of yours email accounts.

On Sony Xperia Z, open this email and tap on the VCF file to import contacts. Thats it. This method does not require use of computer or iTunes.

There are other ways to transfer contacts from iPhone to android phone including transferring from iCloud.

Transfer contacts from Windows Phone to Sony Xperia Z/ZL
If your old phone is Windows Phone, Your contacts should be in the Microsoft account like Outlook, Hotmail, Windows Live Email etc.

1. On your computer, Go to Outlook > Login with your Microsoft account > Click arrow next to Outlook > Click People > Click Manage > Select Export to export contacts to CSV file. Save the file on your desktop.

2. On your computer, Login to Gmail account > Go to contacts > Import above CSV file as shown below

3. On Sony Xperia Z, Go to Settings > Account & Sync > Add the above Google account to sync contacts to your android phone.

Transfer contacts from Outlook Express/Exchange to Sony Xperia Z/ZL
If your contacts are in Outlook on your Windows PC, You need to export contacts to CSV file and import contacts into Google account.

1. Open Outlook or Outlook Express on your computer and Click on File > Import and Export > Comma Separated Values (Windows) > select Contacts > export to CSV file.

2. On your Computer, Login to Gmail site > Go to Contacts > Import CSV file as shown in the above image.

3. On Sony Xperia Z, Go to Settings > Account & Sync > Add the above Google account to sync contacts to your android phone.

Transfer contacts from BlackBerry to Sony Xperia Z/ZL
1. On your old BlackBerry Phone, Open Browser & Go to m.google.com/sync to download Google Sync. Open the app and login to Google account to sync BlackBerry contacts to Gmail.

2. On Sony Xperia Z/ZL, Go to Settings > Account & Sync > Add the above Google account to sync contacts to your new phone.

Transfer contacts to Sony Xperia Z/ZL via SD Card
If your contacts VCF file is on SD Card, Tap on the VCF file to import contacts to Sony Xperia Z. You might need ES File Explorer android app.

Transfer contacts to Sony Xperia Z/ZL via SIM Card
If your contacts on SIM card, You can transfer them to Sony Xperia Z Phone easily. On your Xperia Z phone, Go to Applications > Contacts > Menu > Import from SIM to import contacts.

All your contact names and phone numbers will be transferred.
