Firefox is enjoying the leading position among all the free and open source applications. This might be a reason why Firefox is one of the popular and most used web browsers till date. Other reason of the Firefox success might be its ability to add extra features with the help of add-ons. Though the consumers of Firefox can download and use add-ons for free from addon.mozilla.org, developers of add-ons are getting nothing.
The only think the developers can do is request for donation on AMO from the users. Developers of Mozilla Firefox add-ons are asking Mozilla to do more so they can get a real return for their work. At the add-on-happy conference held at Mountain View, California, home town of Mozilla, Justin Scott, Add-ons product manager, said-
“We’ll probably be doing a marketplace pilot in 2010″
He also added, “I really wish we had more consumer feedback on these sorts of things. We don’t get enough feedback from consumers who would actually be buying these add-ons. We haven’t really brought it up for discussion among them yet. But from what we hear, developers all want a store. But we’re not really sure how consumers feel about it.”
Developers referred to Apple iTunes store and suggested if Mozilla can start a marketplace it will be good. For the statement made by Robert Reich host of the conference and founder of OneRiot, Justin Scott said some kind of marketplace is on the way.
