If the iconic iPhone, had one chink in its armor, it was its inability to have a simple syncing option for calendars. The iPhone 3.0 OS has fixed that. With its improved calendar synchronization feature the iPhone has made it a breeze for you to keep a tab on your time. How does it do so?
It has added two features, the CalDAV and ICS support that lets you synchronize (or subscribe to) multiple calendars to the iPhone (if you want to move beyond the worlds of Exchange and MobileMe). ICS supports multiple calendars, while CalDAV allows you to sync the Google calendar (and also the Yahoo calendar if you want)
Syncing the Google Calendar with CalDAV:
Step 1: Go to the settings, then account and then select the “Other” option from the “Add Account” screen and select “Add CalDAV account” from there.
Step 2: In the CalDAV screen, fill in the necessary details – the Server (www.google.com), User name (Your Google account), Password and Description (the calendar description). Then tap on “Next”.
Step 3: You are kidding. There is no step 3. Once you tap “Next”, the almighty iPhone will take care of the rest –i.e. will automatically get the Google calendar for you.
Note: You can further use the CalDAV account to get multiple Google calendars, with a special ID. You can also set CalDAV as your default calendar.
