How to Lock Specific Keyboard and Mouse Functions on Windows

There are certain times when you would like to lock specific keyboard or mouse functions such as when a toddler is around you or whenever you are cleaning your PC. Locking your keyboard or mouse helps in preventing unwanted buttons from accidentally getting pressed.

Kid-Key-Lock is one such program that enables you to lock specific keyboard and mouse functions. It is easy-to-use and configure. You can lock specific functions such as left mouse button, right mouse button, system key combination, all keys,etc. The following sections will guide you in installing and configuring Kid-Key-Lock.

Installing Kid-Key-Lock

Installing Kid-Key-Lock is pretty easy. Jut go to http://www.100dof.com/kidkeylock.html and download the Kid-Key-Lock setup file. (100dof_kidkeylock_setup.exe). Once the download completes, run the exe file to start the installation.

i. The installation window will open asking you to close all running applications before continuing. You may ignore the message and click Next.

ii. The next form will ask you to specify the location where you would like to install Kid-Key-Lock. Select the location and click on Next.

iii. To create a shortcut to Kid-Key-Lock in the Start Menu, enter the name of the folder you want to appear in the Start Menu or else check the radio box titled Don’t create a Start Menu folder and click Next.

iv. The next form displays certain additional options such as creating a desktop shortcut, quick launch shortcut etc. Select the ones you want and click on Next.

v. Finalize your settings and click on Install. Click on Finish once the installation completes.

Configuring Kid-Key-Lock

Configuring Kid-Key-Lock is pretty easy. Just follow the steps given below to configure Kid-Key-Lock.

i. Run Kid-Key-Lock using the desktop shortcut or via the Start Menu. Kid-Key-Lock will appear in your system tray.

ii. To configure Kid-Key-Lock, right click on the system tray icon and click on Setup.Kid-Key-Lock setup window will open.

iii. In the setup window, select the functions you would like to lock.

iv. If you lock all the keyboard and mouse functions, the only way to unlock them is by entering the password via keyboard. In the setup window, select the passwords that you would like to use in order to show the setup window or quit Kid-Key-Lock in case all functions are locked.

v. After configuring, Click on OK. Kid-Key-Lock will lock the specified.

Anytime you want to unlock the locked functions, just enter any of the 2 passwords that you had specified during setup.
