How to create favicon easily

9 Apr 2009Favorite icon in short is called as Favicon. Creating Favicon is really easy you can create your own Favicon in just four steps. You can use your brand image or design your custom image to use it as a Favicon. Make sure that the image size is either 16 x 16 or 32 x 32. Lets us start with the process of creating Favicon.
1) Select the image that you want to be displayed next to your website title. You can use your brand logo or any other image; even you can create an image using Photoshop. Better, select small image that represents your website and still be clear in 16 x 16 resolution.
2) Selected .jpg or .gif images should be converted into 256 color safe Web Palette or Windows 16 color format. You can do this using most of the graphic packages. Now resize the image to 16 x 16 pixels using your graphic package or using online image resizer. Make sure that your image clarity is not reduced because of resizing.
3) Once, you are done with image resizing and formatting. You need to save the file as “Favicon.ico”. For saving the file with the .ico extension, you can use the online services like FavIcon Generator or Favicon from Pics. Web browser by default looks for Favicon.ico for Favicon.
4) After this, you have to upload Favicon.ico file from your computer to your site. Now insert this code <link rel=”shortcut icon” href=”/favicon.ico”> in the Head section of your website HTML code. Normally in between <head> </head> tags.
You just created your favorite icon “Favicon” to be displayed inside the browser’s location bar and your Favicon will be shown even inside the bookmark menu if someone bookmarks your page.
