When the Oxford English Dictionary acknowledges some word, you know that the situation that created that word has some force. After all, we all go by the highest standards set by the OED.
That is where the might of social networking sites, especially the ones like the Facebook, came to the fore when a social networking inspired new word was introduced to the repertoire of Oxford English Dictionary this year–“Unfriend”.
Unfriend: verb – To remove someone as a ‘friend’ on a social networking site such as Facebook.
As in, “I decided to unfriend my roommate on Facebook after we had a fight.”
High time the MS Word recognizes it too!
