Amazon released Kindle Fire HD recently. It’s available in 7″ & 8.9″ sizes. Google Nexus 7 is 7″ Jelly Bean powered android OS. Hopefully, you can decide which one is better you after reading this review.
As tablets mature, hardware specifications like processor etc don’t matter soon. It all comes to ecosystem you want to be in.
Amazon vs Google Ecosystem
Ecosystem is most important thing when comparing Kindle Fire HD & Nexus 7. With Kindle fire HD, You have access to Amazon Instant Videos. It features thousands of movies, music, TV shows etc. With Amazon Prime, you can watch Amazon Prime Videos for free. You also get 2 day free shipping on most of the items you buy from Amazon. You can also buy or rent movies, TV shows etc. If you have Amazon Prime or thinking to get Amazon Prime, Kindle Fire HD is the tablet you want to own If you watch videos etc. You also get access Free Kindle lending library.
Nexus 7 has Google Play. You can buy or rent movies, TV shows etc. It might not have best collection of movies & tv shows. Also, It does not offer any subscription like Amazon Prime. You can still watch Netflix, Hulu etc though. Amazon does not have any android app to watch Amazon Instant Videos on Nexus 7. You have install flash manually & watch them in the browser.

Amazon AppStore vs Google Play
Google’s android OS wins here. Google Play has lot of apps though they might not be targeted to tablet devices. You may not find all your favorite apps in Amazon AppStore.
Multi User Support or Multiple Profiles
Kindle Fire HD has Kindle FreeTime. Parents can create multiple profiles and restrict books, apps, games, videos for children. They can also set total usage time for a day. If you are a Parent, FreeTime is really helpful.
Nexus 7 does not have inbuilt multiple profile support, but you can use limited parental controls in android.

Another notable feature of Nexus 7 & Jelly Bean OS is Google Now. You can get right information like weather, sports scores, travel info etc at the right time with Google Now. Also, Google Search is integrated.
Which is better? It depends on your needs. If you are Parent and looking for multiple profiles or you like Amazon Prime Videos, Kindle Fire HD is a steal. If you like Jelly Bean features, android apps & games, Nexus 7 is for you.
