Amazon’s Kindle, the application (and the device) that is destined to take digital content to a new level, has launched a PC version for of the app. However, no donuts for Mac users yet, the app is available only for Windows PCs as of now.
What does the Kindle PC do? If you have an Amazon account, the Kindle will simply let you download and read all sorts of books you want. The PC version of Kindle has most has a staggering collection of more than 3,60,000 books, including the top 100 New York Times Best Sellers, the opportunity to try-before-you-buy, (i.e. read the first chapters of many of the books for free) and offers a host of classic reads under $9.99.

The reading aesthetics: That much for the collection and features. As for the reading experience (well, that is Kindle’s forte anyway), the app has been a breeze for its users. Anybody who has used the ultra portable Kindle device, knows that Kindle is meant for taking your reading aesthetics and habits to a new level. The back-lit reading screen and the pathbreaking Whispersync technology that lets you automatically synchronize between your last page read and annotation between devices takes the reading on-screen experience to a new level. And then there is thesuper cool UI for PC.
The interface: The PC interface for Kindle is simple and intuitive. It is clutter free and presents simple features like – “Home”, “Advanced”, “Sort By” (through “Most Recent, “Title” and “Author” tabs), “Shop in Kindle Store” (which opens a new window that takes you to the Kindle Bookstore homepage at Amazon ) and “Menu” (which has a drop-down featuring “Settings”, “Sync and Check for new items” and “Manage a Kindle” among other options). You will need a Kindle account to use any of these features.
Missing features: 1. However, in the PC version, there are two small chunks missing. This app won’t allow (yet) you to read newspapers, magazines and blogs on your PC.
2. This app does not allow making your own notes, like the hardware for Kindle or the iPhone/iPod touch app.
Finally, they say that good things are not free. However, this goodie is a freebie and smooth install. What are you waiting for? Just download it and re-”kindle” your reading habits!
