Task Manager is an application that is included in the Microsoft Windows Operating systems using this application you can know what are the applications running on the system and also know the system CPU usage and memory usage.
But, the features available in the Windows Task Manager are limited and we cannot rely on the task manager when coming to debugging software’s or to solve any of the system problems.
There are many alternative Task managers are available which help us to monitor the system better and to know full details about a process running and the process tree. Here in are some of the applications that help you to fully analyze the system and know all the process running on the system. You can even know about the hidden processes that are running on the system.
This application is first developed by the Sysinternals and then acquired by the Microsoft. This is a freeware application that is available for download at free of cost. This application helps you to know which of the process is using a particular file or know the information about all the files like the dlls, etc., by a process. By this way you can track down the application that is preventing the launch of another application or which is using the maximum system resources. This application as two windows in the top window you can see all the process that are running on the system and in the bottom window you can see what all files the selected process is using. In this application you can also view the memory map of the files which a selected application is using. This application is very useful when coming to software debugging and to know the problems in the system.

As the name suggests you can explore every program that is running on the system using this application. When you select a process from the list detailed view of the selected program can be viewed like the CPU usage, disk usage, memory, network, file information, etc., in the bottom window. If you notice any of the application becoming unstable you can force that application out from the physical memory and also you can easily terminate any of the process and even terminate the process tree if required with this application. It has got built-in memory optimization tool that automatically monitors the free memory and do the need full to keep your system stable. You can replace the Task Manager with TaskExplorer go to tools menu–>Options there check the box to replace it. TaskExplore is a freeware and works only on windows computers.

This is one another free application which can replace the Task Manager and provides with many features. Using this application you can get every detail about all most all files, applications, addons, etc., on the system. This comes with enhanced security features like it will check the process for the suspicious files or you can manually check each process for a security breach via VirusTotal and Jotti service. This application shows the full file details of an application running on the system and gives the graphs about the usage of the system resources by that application. It will make system snapshots such that you can know the changes made by installing or uninstalling an application on the system.

With the use of the history tab you can know about all the process on the system including their start and end time, connections, system events and any modifications. You can expand the functionality of the System Explorer by using various plugins. It has got a simple interface but very powerful performance.

Thanks for the post. Are these pretty lightweight? I’m always careful about installing programs that might slow my system down.

@Evan
That is a very good question Evan, all the programs are tested and they do not slow down your system. They will just use a limited amount of system resources and you can terminate the application at your will if needed.
